Tis the season

I love this time of year because I spend most of it in the kitchen! I love cookin' up new treats to try out on friends and family. Even though I have to admit, I am not a very good pie maker. Well, I wasn't until I discovered no bake pies! I really urge you to check out this site for some wonderful treats!

At this time of year we tend to be lax on school, and usually have 3-4 days of lessons instead of 5. There is so much going on and so much to do, I couldnt imagine trying to fit it all in! We really focus on family and have a few family traditions. For example, we cut down our own tree, we read the "Night Before Christmas" on Christmas eve, we don't do Christmas dinner but a HUGE breakfast instead( we have snack platters and treats for all day grazing)... these traditions are more then that they are memories. What are some of your traditions and memories? What makes this season special to you?  Has the bleak economy changed any of your traditions?
Tis the season....

My New FOOD attitude....

The Good Doctor and his advice.....

Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?
A: Heart only good for so many beats, and that it... Don't waste on exercise Everything wear out eventually. Speed up heart not make live longer; that like say you can extend life of car by driving faster. Want live longer? Take nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does cow eat? Hay and corn. What are these? Vegetables. So, steak nothing more than efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef also good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And pork chop can give 100% recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine. That means they take water out of fruity bit; get even more of goodness that way. Beer also made out of grain. Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: If you have body and you have fat, ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Cannot think of single one, sorry. My philosophy: No Pain...Good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU NOT LISTENING!!! .... Foods fried in vegetable oil. How getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise muscle, it get bigger. You should only do sit-ups if want bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: You crazy? HELLO ...  Cocoa beans! Vegetable!!! Cocoa beans best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming good for figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

AND.....

For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies:

1. The Japanese eat very little fat
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4 The Italians drink a lot of red wine
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION.....
Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

PS
I hope this didn't offend you, but if it did you probably dont have a sense of humor.

Budding Reader

I have told you all before I have a daughter with severe dyslexia. She writes letters and words backwards and sometimes speaks backwards! Reading is VERY difficult for her,but she tries and somedays can do very well. Most of the stories/books she has are on tape becasue she absorbs them that way. At least until recently....Mack has discovered the Goosebumps books by  RL Stine. She has actually READ(without help) 6 of them. I am NOT a big fan of these books because I don't feel they honor Christ in ANY way....but at the same time she has never read books like she is now( on her own and without being asked or told its reading time).I have tried to get her to read stories that will/would inspire her heart, to no avail. So I am at a cross roads, do I tell her to stop reading because they dont 'do' anything for her mind or soul OR do I embrace the fact that shes reading on her own and just pray she grows out of them and into something that will enhance her as a young lady with a servants heart? Would like to hear your thoughts.....

Coupon Queen

I have a new obsession and please don't laugh, it is a noble obsession like Avon or Tupperware; yes, I am cutting coupons! Now before you giggle and roll your eyes let me explain. It happend accidently, it was an experiment, really. See, I saw this news story about this lady whos grocery bill was $140 and after her coupons she paid $5 !  I thought HOW can I do that? Wait, can I do that? So, I clipped coupons a couple of weeks ago, first I had to call wal mart to see if they take them(they do) and the ones you print out (they do). My first week with coupons I took $8 off my bill. I thought 'not to bad, wounder if I can do better...'  As an experiment I went to Shaws with a sale flyer, mfg.coupons and coupons I printed off Shaws website. My Bill was $40 and after coupons it was $7 ! WHOO HOOO! This past week I took $20 off my wal-mart bill! I think I got it figured out! I used to laugh at "coupon queens" and roll my eyes that they would spend time cutting coupons that got them 50 cents off. It never occured to me that LOTS of items are $1 or more off and in this economy every 50 cents helps! I cant wait for the next bogo at my local grocery store. Sorry ladies, if you get behind me in line I WILL have anywhere from 8-15 coupons from now on! ;) Yes I have become one of THEM, the coupon queens! You can join the ranks by starting here www.coupons.com
Happy couponing
